What are Bitwarden Reports?

  • Bitwarden's reports feature will look at the passwords saved in your vault for security issues. There are 6 types of reports you can generate and they are as follows
    • Exposed Passwords
    • Reused Passwords
    • Weak Passwords
    • Unsecure Websites
    • Inactive two-step login
    • Data breach

How do I access reports?

  1. Access your bitwarden web vault at https://vault.bitwarden.com/

  2. Login with your highlight email and master password. Complete MFA.

  3. Select Reports on the left sidebar. You will now see the types of reports Bitwarden can generate.

  4. Select the report you wish to generate. For this article we will go over the Weak passwords report. The report will show all passwords the app classifies as weak. An example weak password is shown here

  5. Generate a new password in Bitwarden by either of the following methods:
    • Clicking the items listed in the report and clicking the generate password icon in the password field
    • Opening the browser extension and selecting generator
    • Note: We recommend using the following best practices when creating your Master Password:
      1. Use a minimum of 12 characters, but the lengthier the better
      2. Use upper case, lower case, numeric, and special character values
      3. Make it pronounceable and memorable, but not easily guessed (e.g., a passphrase)
      4. Make sure that it is unique only to you
      5. Never use personal information
      6. A good example is: Bruno8!my2woolsox (DO NOT USE THIS EXAMPLE)
  6. Update your Bitwarden vault entry with the new password.

  7. Update any weak passwords shown on their website by either of the following methods:
    • Log in to the site and change the password within the site's account settings.
    • Use the Forgot Password recovery flow on the site to change your password.
  8. Your password is now updated on both Bitwarden and the website, and should no longer appear in the report.
