Note:
This tutorial is intended to be a brief summary of he features of Zoom Webinars. For full information and in depth tutorials visit Zoom’s website
The Basics
Webinars vs Meetings:
- Zoom Webinars function very similarly to a regular Zoom Meeting with a few key differences:
- Attendees are permanently muted unless given permission to speak by a host or panelist. They also cannot share their screen or video.
- Zoom Webinars can have up to 10,000 attendees. Meetings can only have 100
- Zoom Webinars have a Q&A feature and a Polling feature.
Hosts vs Panelists:
- The leaders of a Webinar are divided into two levels: Hosts and Panelists.
- Both can speak, share their screen, view the chat, answer Q&A, launch Polls, and allow attendees to speak. There are some minor differences:
- Hosts can promote anyone in the meeting to Panelist or Host and can end the meeting for everyone. They are almost identical to a normal Meeting host.
- Panelists cannot change the permissions levels of anyone in the meeting. They are almost identical to attendees in a normal Zoom meeting.
Features
Raise Hand
-
Attendees can use the “Raise Hand” feature in Zoom to get the attention of a Host or Panelist. This will flash an alert at the bottom of all host and panelist’s Zoom window.
-
By clicking on the alert, the Host or Panelist can open a 1 on 1 chat window with the attendee with the ability to allow them to speak to the whole webinar.
Q&A
- The Q&A feature is nearly identical to the normal Chat feature with a few differences:
- Attendees can ask questions anonymously. This will display their message to the entire Q&A chat but hide their name.
- Hosts and Panelists can mark a question in the Q&A as “Answered in Line” if the person speaking has already addressed the question or will address the question while they are talking.
Polls
-
Polls allow for pop up windows for all attendees to vote on specific questions or items that the host chooses.
-
Polls must be configured before the Zoom meeting begins.
-
Polls can be launched from the Zoom toolbar and closed at will. When a poll is closed the host or panelist can then display the results of the poll to everyone in the Webinar.
