This article is intended to help guide Highlight staff through setting up a laptop that has been provisioned with Microsoft Intune and Windows AutoPilot.

Intro

  • Windows AutoPilot allows non-IT staff to set up new laptops with minimal assistance and/or interference from the IT Department.
  • Highlight IT already completes some of the provisioning process before sending new laptops out to staff members.
  • When you first power on your new laptop you will be at a login screen. The process below describes all the steps you need to take to get set up.

PROCESS

1.) At the login screen, connect to the internet by clicking on the globe icon in the bottom right.

2.) Sign in with your full Highlight Email and your Email password.

For Example:

Windows will continue setting up your account, during this process you will be prompted to authenticate with Multifactor Authentication on your Highlight account.

3.) The provisioning process will then continue with "Account Setup". You can click on "Show Details" to view which step you are on.

Note: This process can take up to 2 hours. Contact the IT Department if it takes more than 2 hours to complete.

During Account Setup you will be asked to add your fingerprint or facial recognition for Windows Hello. Click "Skip for Now" on the bottom left.

4.) You will then be prompted to set up a Windows PIN. The Windows PIN functions just like a normal computer password and will be the default method used to access your computer.

5.) After creating your PIN you will log in and be at your new Desktop. Wait at the Desktop till Teams launches automatically and the Chrome icon appears on the desktop.

6.) Once Teams and Chrome are available, restart the computer once to finish applying all of the security and app settings.

Log back in and verify the following apps are installed:

  • Teams
  • OneDrive
  • Chrome
  • Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Company Portal

Please Note: If you are migrating from an old laptop, it may take some time for your Office Apps to sync up. We recommend allowing a few hours for this process if you notice any discrepancies with Outlook, Teams, etc.

FILE STORAGE INFORMATION

For files not stored in SharePoint, all Highlight employees using Highlight provided computers are required to store all files in Microsoft's OneDrive for Business.

OneDrive is a cloud-based file storage application integrated with your Microsoft account and computer. To set this up, please follow these steps:

1. Navigate to portal.office.com, log into your Highlight account, and click on the OneDrive application.

2. At the top of the Files page, click "Sync". Allow all permissions and enter your Microsoft account information when prompted. OneDrive will now show up in your computer's file explorer on the left toolbar. Note: This may take some time to populate.

3. Save your files in this folder so they are uploaded to/sync with the cloud.

OPTIONAL

We recommend completing these steps to ensure that your computer is fully up to date and compatible with any devices you connect to it. If you are not comfortable completing these steps please contact the IT Team.

Update Drivers and Firmware with Dell Command Update:

1.) Ensure your laptop is connected to a power source.

2.) Open the Start Menu and Scroll to Dell Command Update.

If you do not see Dell Command Update, contact the IT department.

If prompted select "No I do not wish to automatically apply updates".

3.) Click Check for Updates.

Select all updates EXCEPT the system BIOS update.

Allow updates to download. Once complete, restart your computer.

Company Portal App

If there are any additional software needed on your computer, please check out our Company Portal app. Here you can install IT approved applications, such as NotePad++, Citrix Workspace and VMware Horizon. If you do not see an application that you need in the Company Portal app, please email the IT Team at [email protected] and we would be able to further assist you.

A few of our applications in the Company Portal app require additional licenses to use. If you need access to Adobe Creative Cloud or Microsoft licenses, please reach out to the IT Team prior to installing Adobe CC or Microsoft Visio.

If you encounter any issues during the provisioning process please email [email protected] for assistance.
